Why choose animation video over live action video?

So what’s your scene? I mean, if you want to get your customer’s attention, what would you do? Live shot video? Or maybe a screencast video? Good choices, both… They can be effectively exploited to put your points across, of course… But why not go for something more creative? A better option… Especially when it is available! Why not choose an animation video instead? Well, the ball is in your court. But that’s not going to stop me from trying to convince you to go for it. If you are already convinced, you can risk not reading further!

It would be quite proper to go through the factors that make animation videos, the best choice for your advertising needs. So, let’s get started.

1. Time

Understandably, production of an advertising video especially if you are considering going through the traditional routes, requires a lot of time and efforts. Scripting, casting, editing, finding perfect actors, competent video directors, travelling to exotic locations for the shoots and blah, blah and blah – eats up a lot of your time. Now, compare it with creating an animation video which can be wrapped up in a few weeks time from the comfort of your room. No work involved… Just a few meetings with the creative team and timely approvals, and you are good to go! As easy as eating your pie!

2. Infinite possibilities

Animations are especially the best option if you have a limited budget and big, huge ideas swirling in your head. Like for example, you want your advertisement to have a 17th century look and feel or a gravity defying setup, imagine the cost of getting proper costumes and highly sophisticated sets for production. Let’s not even mention the qualifications of the workforce and their paychecks! You might also, probably need to brush on your science and math skills to make your ideas come alive! With animation, however, everything becomes simple. You can have an alien in your drawing room or you can go jet setting from Havana to Maldives in seconds. You can exaggerate your ideas without feeling guilty. Everything at your fingertips… Sounds too good to be true, right?

Now, all of us love stories. All of us can easily relate and connect to it. That makes storytelling a very important and handy tool for advertisement. How many times have you picked up a tissue to get through advertisements that have pulled at your heartstrings? How many times have you roared with laughter when you watched Brad Pitt selling Chanel No. 5 parfum, keeping a straight face while talking complete nonsense? Ok, I am trying not to ROFL! Sadly, Brad Pitt isn’t the point of conversation so let’s not divert. The point is, animations are the best medium of storytelling. [Now, I can’t help thinking, an animated character instead of Brad Pitt could have saved his face as well as that of Chanel No. 5 parfum. So bad they didn’t think of it! P.S: I am still laughing! They should have probably asked my opinion before they went to Brad Pitt.]

4. You don’t need actors

With animation videos, you don’t need good actors. You don’t need famous actors with high-priced bills. You don’t need actors with packed schedules and bad moods. Heck, you don’t need to put up with any actors at all! All you need is a really good animation studio and a bunch of creative guys, who are ready to work on your every needs and ideas and create something better than you ever envisaged.

5. Production Cost

I do not even think it is necessary for me to mention the costs. But since, it is an important point in the whole deal; I think it would suffice to say that the production costs of creating an animation video advert is ten times less than a traditional one. Yeah, you heard it right… It is ten times less. By the way, you forgot to close your mouth!

Of course, it is a no-brainer that you need a lot of resource to make a traditional video advert. Production Company, cable providers, copywriters, art directors, account executives, media planners, brand manager, project manager, directors, camera men, creative directors, scriptwriters, actors, video producers, commercial directors, musicians, print production managers, traffic mangers, video editors, voiceover artists, concept writer, audio editors, story board artists, marketing specialists, location managers, logo designers, software professionals, digital specialists – there is so many details to think of and no, I am not even done yet! With an animation video, you hardly require even ten creative people on your team! Everything within budget, way within your budget…

7. Work Involved:

Of course, when you have so many resources to manage, the burden of managing comes with it; they are a package. You have to make key decisions like finding a good production company, finding good media professionals, talk with the actors and schedule shoots, check out locations for shooting advert, take care of accommodation and visas for exotic international locations, keeping a tab on the budgets and so much more. It is very easy for everything to get out of your control. Yeah, I forgot to mention… You get headaches for no extra cost! However, when you go to an animation studio to get your advert done, all your decisions are taken care of. The prices of their services are fixed and you can do away with extra details like locations, actors, accommodation and food budgets for the crew members etc etc… And that extra packet of chips bought by your crew member or the extravagant shopping spree by your actor – chill! You don’t have to worry about that at all!
